Shadow Play

Wearing: thrifted silk button down, AA mesh bloomers, vintage heels & belt

Loving my AA mesh bloomers. The lace peeking out at the bottom adds instant style to any long top or mini dress, while their sheerness makes them ideal for summer heat.
(Also have high-waist hot shorts layered underneath)

The mythology surrounding the goddess Lilith has always been very interesting to me. There are many tales of her in multiple cultures, but I identify most with her damned role in early Christian myth. She is said to have been Adam’s first wife, but was cast out of Eden when she would not submit to him. She then mated with demons and produced a race of evil creatures. During the medieval times on she was compared to the serpent of Eden. The images below present a very Victorian representation of Lilith, the serpent temptress of Eden. There are also other interpretations of her demonic side.

Lilith, Collier, 1892

Lady Lilith, Rossetti, 1863

Rossetti also wrote a sonnet to accompany the painting:

Of Adam's first wife, Lilith, it is told
(The witch he loved before the gift of Eve,)
That, ere the snake's, her sweet tongue could deceive,
And her enchanted hair was the first gold.
And still she sits, young while the earth is old,
And, subtly of herself contemplative,
Draws men to watch the bright web she can weave,
Till heart and body and life are in its hold.
The rose and poppy are her flower; for where
Is he not found, O Lilith, whom shed scent
And soft-shed kisses and soft sleep shall snare?
Lo! As that youth's eyes burned at thine, so went
Thy spell through him, and left his straight neck bent
And round his heart one strangling golden hair.

Temptation and Fall, Michelangelo,1510

Red Hot Summer

Summer in Michigan is surprisingly hot and humid. Days like today call for simple style, and the least amount of clothing you can possibly wear. Also came across a butterfly fluttering through the flowers. Definitely a lazy summer day.

There is a cage alone in a room.
For many years, solitude.
The stark walls for company,
The silence is deafening.

Once a bird, so full of passion,
Brought eternal joy to those who knew.
Beautiful songs spun out his beak,
Once a sight to behold, but since long gone.

That sad, lonely cage,
All that was known is now gone.
A ribcage is missing it's beating heart.
This has been a slow and steady demise.

Officially Summer.

Summer is a very light hearted part of the year for me. Everyone is happy, and truly enjoying their lives. Does such a place exist where it is summer everyday? I would live there.

Piping down the valleys wild,
Piping songs of pleasant glee,
On a cloud I saw a child,
And he laughing said to me:

'Pipe a song about a Lamb!'
So I piped with merry cheer.
'Piper, pipe that song again;'
So I piped: he wept to hear.

'Drop thy pipe, thy happy pipe;
Sing thy songs of happy cheer!'
So I sung the same again,
While he wept with joy to hear.

'Piper, sit thee down and write
In a book that all may read.'
So he vanish'd from my sight;
And I pluck'd a hollow reed,

And I made a rural pen,
And I stain'd the water clear,
And I wrote my happy songs
Every child may joy to hear.
